The monastery along with the Capuchin church of St. Francis was built in the 17th century thanks to the generosity of Bishop Leopold Wilhelm. It was built according to the plans by the monastic architects, Fr. Fr. Cesar of Munich and Johann of Styria. The cornerstone was embedded on 3 June 1659, in the place of the former hospital and the St. Lawrence Church. The temples were built in the Tuscan Baroque style, they are typical of the Capuchin architecture, without ornaments and numerous decorations. As a result of secularisation in 1810, the monks left their property and the monastery was taken over by the Prussian State and put up for sale. In 1812, the monastery was handed over to the retired priests. In the 19th century, it was renovated and in the 20th century – developed.
